- 1 lb (450g) dried pinto beans, soaked overnight
- 1 lb (450g) ground meat
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chilies
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp mustard
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (ensure it’s alcohol-free)
- 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Start by draining the soaked beans and transferring them to a spacious cooking pot.
- Cover with water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 1 hour or until tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned, breaking it into smaller pieces. Drain excess fat if needed.
- In a separate skillet, sauté chopped onions, minced garlic, and diced green bell peppers. Cook for 5 minutes until vegetables are softened.
- Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, and broth. Mix well.
