Classic Italian Spaghetti Sauce

Classic Italian Spaghetti Sauce Ingredients :

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef (or Italian sausage)
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)
  • Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)

Instructions :

  1. In a wide saucepan, gently warm the olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Introduce the minced garlic and sauté it for about a minute until it releases its aromatic fragrance.
  3. Add ground beef (or Italian sausage) to the pot. Cook and stir until the meat is browned and fully cooked, breaking it into small pieces.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, and salt and pepper.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and flavors have combined.
  6. Before serving, stir in fresh basil and sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top, if desired.
